“Leonardo da Vinci’s Fables illustrated”

European competition for 6-12 years old children

WINNERS

The winners of the competition are:

 

The competition allowed children aged 6-12 across the European Union to use and further develop their creativity and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) skills, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s example. 

Object:

The “work” submitted for the competition is an original creation by one or more  participating children and consist in an illustrative interpretation of one Fable, chosen freely by the participating child among 12 selected Fables (“Fables”) written by Leonardo da Vinci. 

Timetable:

  • Open from 1 February until 15 May 2019
  • Announcement of winners: 5 June 2019
  • Award ceremony in Bruxelles: 26 September 2019

Award criteria:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Quality of illustration and visual impact
  • Alignment of the work with the chosen Fable
  • Number of frames
  • Work is part of a class / team activity

Jury

The Members of “Leonardo 4 Children” Juries are about 6-8 professionals and experts in children’s education, art, music, science, innovation, philanthropy, with international and multicultural experience.

  • Christian Galvez, author of exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci – Los rostros del genio”, presenter, writer on Leonardo, Madrid (chair);
  • Mario Pardini, President, Lucca Crea;
  • Alberto Rocca, Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Milan;
  • Agnès Sinsoulier-Bigot, vice-président of Culture, Région Centre-Val de Loire;
  • Maria Teresa Trisciuzzi, professor of children literature, University of Bolzano;
  • Giuseppe Ragazzini, visual artist, Milan;
  • Denise Monas, president of children’s theatre group “Le piccole canaglie”, Brussels;
  • Dennis Marien, Comics Arts Museum, Brussels;
  • Agueda Gras-Velazquez, European Schoolnet, Brussels (moderator).
AWARDS

The works with the best scoring for each of the 10 Fables received an award, consisting in:

  • publication on “Leonardo 4 Children” multimedia product and as part of the “Leonardo 4 Children” toolkit for raising funds and as donation to children in need;

  • presentation at public events, institutions or public places, during concerts and events;

  • “Leonardo 4 Children” award certificate;

  • publication on website, social media and promotional material.

SPECIAL AWARDS

Partners and sponsors offered special awards, which would consist in special experiences related to art and science, such as for example:
visit accompanied by experts to art or science site;

  • meeting with a famous personality or an expert in art or science;
  • workshops on art or science.

The prestigious Ambrosiana Library in Milan, where is the famous Codex Atlanticus by Leonardo da Vinci, will exceptionally host in its premises in 2019 the winning works of the children's competition on the Fables of Leonardo da Vinci.

 

 

The Science and Technology Museum Leonardo da Vinci in Milan offers to one of the winners 5 tickets to the Museum including participation in a special workshop (weekends).

 

 

The European Space Agency offers to each of the 10 winners:

- a Spacecraft Material Kit, enabling the children to learn about the properties of different materials while being challenged to build a spacecraft that can survive in space. The kit is accompanied by links to teacher guides that can be used by a teacher in the classroom to run the activity in a school setting;

- an ESA certificate with an exciting space exploration picture.

 

 

The Belgian Comic Strip Center will offer 3 summer #workshops to the #children who will win the competition on the Fables of #LeonardodaVinci illustrated in #comics.

The workshops are in FR and NL language, and take place for 5 days (10:00-16:00) on:

  • 15-19 July 2019
  • 19-23 August 2019
  • 26-30 August 2019
