This is a Steam work consisting of a scene created by our secondary school IES David Buján from Cambre (A Coruña), to represent Spain in the Global Sciencie Opera, an international educational project, interdisciplinary between the fields of sciencie and arts.
In this project participated a group of students from 15 to 17 years old, guided by 5 Pedagogical Departments: Music, Religion, Spanish Language, Plástic Education and Steam Bach teachers to create a multidisciplinary scene (a video about 4 minutes) which combines the arts (music, poetry and dance) and science through an interdisciplinary work, that aims to raise awareness and try to re-educate our students to achieve a recovery of the Santiago road as a structural element of pilgrimage, natural and cultural wealth.

Through this proposal, we have tried to claim for mother earth the cleaning of waste and the recovery of species in forests, estuaries and beaches using the Camino de Santiago as a structural element. The students have learned to develop their creativity, learning to recycle, using materials such as rings from cans, plastic bottles, or caps to design the different costumes. Its purpose is to make people aware of the importance of keeping our ecosystems clean of waste.
The project called Recovers Mother Earth on the Camino de Santiago, demands for Mother Earth the cleaning of waste and the recovery of species from forests, rivers and beaches, a natural space for walkers throughout 12 centuries of history.
The scene in Spain makes us make a pilgrimage from the forests of Oleiros, plunges us into the Burgo estuary in the middle of autumn and brings us closer to Sta Cristina Beach

The Camino de Santiago, in addition to being a religious pilgrimage route, has played a key role in the development of European identity, its communication and the exchange of ideas and projects to excite the world by recovering Mother Earth on the Camino. It is the result of creativity, courage, future, team, intrepid youth, beauty of the #DavidBujan Institute.

The song the sun will shine is a collective creation of the Cakike Foundation, in which the team of training artists from the 3 venues (Bogotá, Cartagena and Turbaco) participate, with a selected group of beneficiaries from these venues.

Its purpose is to send a message of reflection on the differences and inequalities that exist in the world, with this song children and adolescents want to convey that there is always a way out, a reason to smile and to believe that it is possible.

This composition is original to Cakike, the lyrics and music were created by the Art and Culture team and the participating beneficiaries during the development of the classes at the Foundation.

Climate change is one of the most important problems of our time. In this context, climate change; It is expected that there may be significant consequences such as hot weather, air pollution, water scarcity, migration, which can directly or indirectly affect human health, living conditions and ecosystems. Awareness of climate change should be created to minimize these impacts.

A group of students from 13 to 16 years joined voluntarily to an activity-contest about Sustainable Art that the school proposed for the 2nd consecutive year in line with the opportunity the Leonardo 4 Children Awards provided. The students were divided into four groups and were given an old wooden panel where they should create their piece of art. Each group received a topic to inspire their work, but, even if they worked independently in each panel, these four were conceived as parts of a puzzle or a whole entitled Equality + Climate Action + Peace = A better world, having in mind the idea that we can only achieve a better world if we work together and rise awareness about equality, climate and peace. The students put their ideas in common to design a sketch and then used painting and recycled materials (caps, newspapers, cardboard, plastic) to create their work of art. The final piece of art was exhibited during the Cultural Day the school celebrated and now forms part of the classrooms decoration.

Winner nr 6: “The Crossroad”

Topic: Climate and Peace
Authors: Toni Podrugovic
Teacher: Karolina Dvojkovic
School: Gimnazjia Vukovar, Vukovar, Croatia

Because of the current events around the war and all the troubles that have fallen humanity and Earth, I have decided to make a piece that is going to show our two possible futures.

The artwork is conceptualized to be like an imperfect reflection. In the middle of the piece, there is DNA on top of which a tree grows. That symbolizes the Earth and that everything in its core is the same thing. That shows the connection in between humans and Earth. We are all incredibly connected to Earth and everything around us. Therefore, everything that is happening to humanity is going to reflect on Earth in some way. The upper half represents the future in which there are no wars, no major conflicts, we stopped with pollution, we turned towards renewable energy sources, and finally started to take responsibility that is proportional to our power. While the bottom half represents what will happen if we continue to turn a blind eye to all the problems that are not going to affect us in this life but will affect our children. The big red ball in the background represents the beating heart of life. In the upper half, the heart is healthy and shines bright. However, on the bottom, the heart is bleeding and is turning into a cold stone. The loving pair sitting on a tree shows that love and respect for one another are going to keep life blooming. On the other hand, unreasonable conflicts and hate are only going to lead to humanity’s downfall. With themselves, they are going to drag down Earth.

With this artwork, I want people to, by observing it, start thinking about the future of the Earth and what they want to leave for their children.

Winner nr 7: “Leonardo and the (in)ternal challenge”

Topic: Climate
Author: Alessandro Larivera
Teacher: Claudia Rago
School: Liceo Scientifico “A. Volta”, Foggia, Italy

The work of art is meant to be a universal message; we are ALL asked to work in order to change the world! We all have to rise to this challenge which may seemeternal. Nevertheless what is really eternal is our love for nature, that is Leonardo’s true source of inspiration in his representation of absolute Beauty. On the one hand, absolute Evil is represented by an old man, that is, the humankind’s past full of mistakes. His mind is dead by now and burnt by the fi re of selfi shness, dominated by a sky always at war with itself. Moreover, his organism feeds only on fear and terror. All that lets him become a waste being hungry for power and money, that are gained through the pollution of his own life. However, in the end, there is no hope within himself, thus his heart is dark, dull and lifeless.
On the other hand, the predominant Life is represented by a young man, that is, the future. The tree of wisdom is already green within himself and peace reigns above it, in a clear sky . His message means respect and inclusion so that everyone can be really free from all evils and be happy, by using clean and renewable energy for the means of transport. It is not to be neglected the preciousness of resources and the importance of recycling. The young man is immersed in a sea of fl owers, his hope is alive and he never gives up; his heart never stops beating… his heartbeat is the real eternity.
This heart is and will be eternal, because it comes from another eternity, which is Leonardo’s genius. In fact, the heart was found in the Windsor Collection, a collection of more than 600 drawings reproducing studies of anatomy and geography by Leonardo da Vinci. The two facing drawings are also by Leonardo, “Busti di vecchio e di giovane affrontati” (Busts of an old man and a young man facing each
other), from the Study of Drawings and prints of the Uffizi museum in Florence.Even the fl owers represented are a clear reference to Leonardo’s studies of botany and his use of them in his own works, such as the white lily in the “Annunciazione” (Annunciation) and the red carnation in the “Madonna del garofano” (Madonna of the Carnation). In this work the two fl owers represent purity (lily) and passion and
love (carnation) respectively.
Finally, a last but not least detail is represented by the Earth in the background. It is the real protagonist, which moves us and makes us reflect on its shape and image, just as Leonardo himself does. And the challenge is always the same: let’s save Beauty,Uniqueness and Eternity.
In three words: let’s “save the Earth”!

                       .

We borrowed microscopes from the science department to examine the microscopic world of plant and soil particles we found in our Tiny Forest. Inspired by what our students saw through the microscope, they then used mixed media to create what we called micro-worlds. The students of Julia Heine-Saabel used plastic sheets and jelly printing technique, then drawing with special marker pens and scratching, using engraving needles to create individual abstracted micro-world compositions. We later assembled the works to create a luminous, semi-transparent installation for the science department. Ms. Roberts’ students created their mixed media micro-world compositions, using jelly printing, drawing and painting techniques on paper.
