Fable:

The flute says to the cello: “Cello, why can we only play high notes and accompaniments?”
The cello says: “Because you are not good at playing low notes. You are inferior.”
The bagpipe, the viola, and the flute came together.
The bagpipe says: “Oh what a nuisance we can only play high notes.”
The viola says: “I would like to play with them, it’s not fair.
And the flute says: “Girls don’t get discouraged at least we’re in the group.”
The flute had an idea and said: “Why don’t we go out and play during the concert break and
show everyone that we can play low notes?”
The flute says:”Great!!”
The bagpipe says: “Remember it’s a secret!”
The viola says: “Here in my house is the perfect place to practice without anyone bothering us
and listening to us. I am always alone in my house.”
Two weeks went by and they practiced a lot to go out and play and show that they could play
high and low notes. In the intermission everyone applauded.
Everyone was amazed at how well these girls played.


Moral:
all instruments can play high and low notes. Everyone has the same rights.

Winner nr 4: “Bee”

Fable:
Many years ago, a king lived, and this king never liked animals. One day, sitting in the garden of his palace, a bee came up to him. When the king swung his arm to expel the bee, the bee stung him. Frustrated by the situation, the king had all the bee hives scattered throughout the environment and sent the bees to another country. Without bees for a while, most plants, vegetables and fruits did not grow because there was no pollination. Realizing the situation, the king brought back a hive bee to an arid region and left them in the arid zone. When he came here later, he could not believe in his eyes. The arid region became a very beautiful green flower-covered place.
Moral: every creature has a place in nature.

Winner nr 5: “Basugron!! The recycled dragon!!”

Fable:

Juan Martín wanted to wear an original costume to go to his school’s carnival party, but as he was unable to decide, he decided to go without a costume. Upon arrival there, he got very sad to realize that there was a lot of rubbish on the floor. Then, he had a great idea!!!

The day before, his teacher was talking about the importance of recycling, so she thought that he could take advantage of all the rubbish to make himself a costume.

He collected all that he could and after recycling it, the result was a colorful dragon costume that was by far, the sensation at the party!!!


Moral: With creativity and awareness of our environment, we can do original and fun things, and at the same time protect our planet.

Winner nr 6: “Small touch”

Fable:
In one of the systems, in the depths of the Universe there was an ordinary planet. Brave Lasrax and Bertax brothers were living in that planet too. One day, they were startled by the sound of the alarm. Suddenly, they realized the environmental disaster resulted from the injustice of the humans for the animals on the planet called Earth. They decided to travel to the Earth immediately. Unfortunately, This planet was nothing like the photograph they saw. They started to observe in order to solve the environmental problem. They remembered that the animals used to play happily in those photos.But now the trees being cut down and animals are dying said Lasrax. Bertax and Lasrax got disappointed. While they were trying to find a solution, a wise hedgehog came. There was “hope” in his eyes and “sadness” in his voice. He asked for help. Together they did everything they could do without giving a break and saved the Earth.

Moral: You can save the world with small touch.

Winner nr 9: “Robo Oyster”

Topic: Climate

Fable: Oyster knew that the sea was polluted. As time passed, the sea got more and more polluted. Fishes migrated to clean areas.

Fish: Hey, oyster ! “We are migrating to clean areas”

Oyster: “Goodbye”

It said and was upset because oysters couldn’t move.

The sea was so polluted by mucilage that people could not swim and bothered by bad smell.

People inspired by oysters to clean the seas. Cleaning process carried out in the seas.

Months later…

Fish: “Hey oyster ! We are back”

Oyster: “Welcome, welcome”

They shed tears of joy as the oyster got rid of her loneliness.

Oyster was very happy because they got rid of loneliness

Morale: Mistakes made by humans can harm our environment and people can fix these mistakes together. Consequently, people can correct mistakes that people make.

 

 

Winner nr 10: “Make Peace not War”

Fable:

There was once a beautiful dove .She was a magical creature that lived in space and could fly between stars and planets. One day she flew over a blue planet, and underneath the clouds she could see oceans, mountains and forests. She heard music and flew closer to take a better look ,she saw roads ,houses with families , schools and parks and lots of people and animals. In many places, people where happy and smiling.Children went to school ,played with friends ,had pets and everyone threw parties and they all loved to eat pancakes  and chocolate. In other places though, people looked sad and unhappy.  There were bombs exploding  and people were running scared ,hiding because of war. This made her very sad, because she loved children and wanted them to be happy.She could not understand why this was happening and either can I, no matter how many times or how hard it’s been explained to me.

She spread her wings and started to fly over the planet, sending love .She made them see through her eyes how wrong war was and how magical their planet was. Miraculously, people realized their mistake ,threw away their guns ,cared for one another and stopped the war.

Summary

The competition allowed children aged 6-12 across the European Union to use and further develop their creativity and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) skills, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s example, to address a global problem such as climate or gender equality.

Object:

The “work” submitted for the competition is an original creation by one or more participating children choosing between two topics:

“FABLES ON CLIMATE ACTION”: the competition allows children aged 6-12 to use their creativity and their artistic and scientific skills to create their own original Fable to interpret the topic of climate action and environmental sustainability, addressing the problem and possibly proposing a solution.

“FABLES ON GENDER EQUALITY”: the competition allows children aged 6-12 to use their creativity and their artistic and scientific skills to create their own original Fable to interpret the topic of gender equality , addressing the problem of gender discrimination and possibly proposing a solution. 

Timetable:

  • Open from 1 November 2020 until 31 May 2021
  • Announcement of winners: 15 June 2021
  • Award ceremony in Bruxelles: 1 October 2021

Scoring criteria:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Quality of illustration and visual impact
  • Ability to address the issue of climate change or gender equality
  • Number of frames
  • Work is part of a class / team activity

Jury

The Members of “Leonardo 4 Children” Juries are professionals and experts in children’s education, art, music, science, innovation, philanthropy, with international and multicultural experience.

The Jury for the competition included the following members: Konstantina Arvaniti, Margherita Mesirca, Denise Monas, Rossella Rusca, Maria Teresa Trisciuzzi, who with great enthusiasm and competence have carefully assessed the participating works and scored them on the basis of the following criteria: (i) ability to address the issue of climate change; (ii) creativity and originality; (iii) quality of illustration and visual impact; (iv) work as part of class/team activity; (v) number of frames. 

AWARDS

The works with the best scoring for each of the 10 Fables received an award, consisting in:

  • publication on “Leonardo 4 Children” multimedia product and as part of the “Leonardo 4 Children” toolkit for raising funds and as donation to children in need;

  • presentation at public events, institutions or public places, during concerts and events;

  • “Leonardo 4 Children” award certificate;

  • publication on website, social media and promotional material.

SPECIAL AWARDS

Partners and sponsors offered special awards, which would consist in special experiences related to art and science, such as for example:
visit accompanied by experts to art or science site;

  • meeting with a famous personality or an expert in art or science;
  • workshops on art or science.
